War is over newspaper heading Washington TimesThe 11th of November marks a special day in World history. It was at 11 a.m. on that day 96 years ago that an agreement came into force that officially ended the First World War. The agreement, which was signed in a railway carriage, was called the Armistice of Compiègne, after the location in France where leaders of the warring parties had gathered to put an end to the fighting that had caused so much death and devastation since the start of hostilities in 1914.

Taiwan-Trains-on-stampsThe souvenir sheet contains three stamps depicting the Hitachi 8-car 130 km/h tilting train. In 2008 the ROC government began electrifying the Hua-tung Railway in order to raise transportation efficiency so as to speed up economic development in Eastern Taiwan. To accommodate with this project, the government also graded it from a single track to double tracks at sections where there were bottlenecks and undertook to straighten its route. The project is expected to be completed in 2014.

BR5600 No5652 stamp Great BritainGreat Britain recently added a new stampset of four to their series of “Classic Locomotives”.¬† Previously released were Classic Locomotives of Scotland (2012) and Classic Locomotives of Northern Ireland (2013).

On the 20th of February Royal Mail issued the set “Classic Locomotives of Wales”, which features all four Classic Locomotives of Wales stamps, together with a dramatic photograph of the BR Class 5101 2-6-2T No. 4126 as it crosses the Crumlin Viaduct with a passenger train in 1963 in its border.
