In the late 1970s a fascinating series of articles written by Mr. K. Kouwenberg about the history of Stamp Collecting, appeared in the Dutch magazine Philatelie. This series has been the source of inspiration for PostBeeld owner Rob Smit to rewrite the history of stamp collecting in instalments. This is Part 31. The copper printing plate for the famous Mauritius 1847 “POST OFFICE” 1d and 2d stamps has been found after being missing, thought lost, for 80 years, and will be displayed at the London 2015 Europhilex Stamp Exhibition, which will be held at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London from 13-16 May 2015. This is a special event, held to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the first postage stamp, the Penny Black.
