We at Freestampmagazine see a lot of new stamps every day and have decided to make a selection of nice stamps that we spotted.

The crowd excitedly cheered as the Governor, Lord Liverpool stepped forward from a group of his peers. Wellington was abuzz with the news that had spread throughout the city – New Zealand was going to war.

First car stampThe first stamp on which an automobile was pictured is Michel #134 (Scott #296) of the United States from 1901. It was issued for the Pan-American World Exposition, held in Buffalo, New York. The automobile pictured is a so-called Electric Service Vehicle, something we would nowadays call a taxi.

The cameo head of The Queen by David Gentleman appears in Royal Mail Red, echoing the colour of poppies, the most poignant symbol of war and remembrance. As ever, they are brought to you in pristine, unmarked condition.

Franz FerdinandExactly 100 Years ago today, Austro-Hungarian archduke and heir apparent Franz-Ferdinand arrived at the station in Sarajevo for an official visit. The first activity on the programme was an inspection of the military barracks. At around 10:00 am the motorcade left the barracks and made way for the town hall. Along the route, a gang of revolutionairies, led by Danilo Ilić, had positioned six men with the aim of assassinating the archduke.
